Guyana Power & Light Inc. (GPL) is in the business of selling electricity to customers in return for revenue. We generate the power, transmit and distribute it to most of the areas along the coastal plane of Guyana. Our customer base starts all the way from Charity in Region 2 and goes up to Moleson Creek in Region 6. A couple of islands in the Essequibo River are powered by GPL; they are Leguan and Wakenaam.
There are a number of commercial offices spread out across the country that enables customers to pay their bills. Customers also utilize the many services we offer with regard to the application for new service, changing ownership of service and/or request for disconnection of service.
We have commercial offices in the following areas:
- Main Street (Georgetown)
- Middle Street (Georgetown)
- Vreed-en-Hoop (West Demerara)
- Anna Regina (Essequibo Coast)
- Bartica (Essequibo)
- Leguan (Essequibo Islands)
- Onverwagt (West Coast Berbice)
- New Amsterdam (East Coast Berbice)
- Hamshire (East Coast Berbice)
- Corriverton (East Coast Berbice)
Each Commercial office has a Commercial Officer who is responsible for the general administration of that particular office. However at the Head Office at Main Street, the Commercial Office is run by a Customer Service Manager. All the Commercial Officers report directly to the Customer Service Manager. He then reports to the Senior Divisional Director - Finance and Commercial Services.
The Senior Divisional Director - Finance and Commercial Services at GPL is Mr. Ashwer Deonarine.
The Head Office at Main Street also houses the Commercial Call Centre. This Call Centre was specifically set up to assist customers with any queries they might have by means of telephone. The Commercial Call Centre is designed to have six (6) Customer Service Representatives who will be standing ready to take calls.
The Commercial Call Centre is available from 8:00 to 21:00hrs Monday to Friday, and on Saturdays from 8:00 to 12:00hrs. The number to call is 226-2626.
