If you have just constructed a new building, or you have moved into another premises, it is imperative that you establish a contract with GPL for that service in your name. To utilize electricity that is being billed to another person is illegal.
These are the requirements when applying for a new RESIDENTIAL or BUSINESS SERVICE or a CHANGE OF TENANCY contract:

Please print these forms using the legal print size format (8.5 x 14 inches)
RESIDENTIAL
- National Identification card or a valid passport
- Photocopy of both faces of ID card or photocopy of cover and picture page of passport
- Proof of ownership of the building (Transport or Bill of Sale) or evidence establishing you as the bona fide tenant. This may include a Tenancy Agreement (letter or contract).
- For new housing areas, proof of the transfer of the land title.
- A Certificate of Inspection from the Government Electrical Inspector, Ministry of Works, if :
a) The building was recently constructed/renovated/rewired
b) Electricity supply to the building was disconnected for more than six (6) months previous.
BUSINESS
When applying for a service for business place, you must produce:-
- The registration certificate or business license
- Proof of ownership of the building or a lease agreement
- Certificate of Inspection from the Government Electrical Inspector
TRANSFORMER
Your business may require the use of a separate transformer. You will be advised accordingly upon submission of the application.
TEMPORARY METER
Electrical power may be required during construction of a new building or renovation of an existing one. You are required to follow the same application procedures for this.
The temporary meter is, however, valid for only six (6) months.

Remember to have your electrical installations (wiring, switches, points, light sockets, fuse box, main switch) checked periodically for wear. Rewire premises and replace faulty components if necessary to avoid electrical fires or damaged equipment and appliances. |
